School Council News

Our final school council meeting for 2023 was held on Monday the 27th of November.

Being the last meeting of the year there was a combined reflection on what had been achieved in 2023, alongside looking at what 2024 would look like for the Elsternwick Primary Community.

Some of the big developments of 2023 have included:

- The Oval resurfacing (including goal posts and lighting towers);

- The new Multisports area between the oval and the orchard;

- The Greenzone internal and outside spaces

- Flicking the switch on solar power across the school

- The development of a new website

- The redevelopment of the school entrance which will continue into 2024

- Bathroom renovations which will be completed in time for the 2024 year

- Commencement of a project to consider a new school logo

These are some of the more noticeable accomplishments for 2023. If you haven’t walked through the school grounds to witness some of these changes recently please do so, EPS is a lovely place for a walk on the weekend too! Perhaps ask your child for a tour. I’m sure they’d love to share their school environment with you.

Other achievements that are not so obvious include:

- Academic results such as our ‘performance in the most recent National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy measures reveals Elsternwick Primary School to be among the best in Victoria’ as quoted in the Australian Financial Review.

- The School Parent/Caregiver/Guardian survey highlighted positive endorsement greater than similar schools, network schools and state averages in all areas except one.

Two other items of note are the fundraising conducted by the Parents and Careers Association (Through events such as the Parent Party, Special Persons day stalls and movie night) and the parents contributions. These are two vital sources of funds that the school needs to maintain the high quality of education and diverse offerings to students at EPS. Please keep this in mind when asked to contribute next year.

There are opportunities to get involved with the school council. As highlighted in previous newsletters, there are several positions vacant next year. If you’re interested in this please contact Michael at Michael.portaro@education.vic.gov.au.

All the best for your summer holidays and see you in 2024.
