Transition Week

Recently, we wanted to help the Year 6 students feel prepared and supported for this next chapter. We know some are feeling nervous but ready, while others are more apprehensive.

The week will included:

  • A personalised timetable with different classrooms and teachers throughout the week
  • Renaming our subjects to match their high school counterparts e.g., ‘Health’, ‘Geography’ and ‘Life Ed.’
  • A combination of different class members, meaning collaboration with a variety of peers throughout the week
  • A ‘Transition to High School’ webinar run by Kids Helpline
  • Preparation for Graduation such as speech writing

Students took ownership over their week, such as knowing which classroom they needed to be in at which time, with which applicable resources.

Student Reflections

I will be talking about the transition week we had to do for high school. Now this doesn't seem like much but it’s very helpful getting into high school and having things differently. It started on Monday when we all met up and got our personalised timetables for the week. I was in different classes such as 6P, 6M and 6H. It was nice being with different people. As we went to our different classes I was surprised because of the new topics we were doing but if I'm going to be honest I hope high school is also like this because this experience was very fun to be a part of! - Harry B 6A

This week we had a transition week, preparing us for high school. During transition week, we were split into different classes each day and we also had different people in our classes, this is to get us ready to go to high school. We had to read our  timetable to be organised and get our books for each class whether it was maths or wellbeing. This week was very enjoyable and fun - Louis L 5/6A
