The Season Of Advent
This Sunday is the Second Sunday of ADVENT.
In the first week of Advent, we focused on HOPE.
During the second week of Advent, we focus on PEACE
The Hebrew word for PEACE that appears in the bible over 250 times was the word
“Shalom.” “Shalom” does not just mean peace, as in no wars, no fighting, no arguing with your brothers and sisters, no being mean to others.
“Shalom” also means “wholeness and wellbeing.”
So the PEACE that we talk about today is for ourselves, too.
We need to take care of ourselves during Advent and be the best person we can
possibly be in order to be PEACEFUL people.
We need to be awake to who we are and how we treat ourselves as well as others.
The Advent wreath is a symbol of growth and of life.
The circle of the candle reminds us that God’s love for us has no beginning and no
end.
The candles remind us of Jesus - the light of the world and a guide for us to follow.
Advent Prayer:
God of the Dream,
You show us the way to be a light to all in need.
Encourage and empower us to live and be God’s Dream
of hope, peace, love and joy for all people.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
