The students' engagement with the book's themes was reflected in their thoughtful questions and insightful observations.

Mathematics: Diving into Statistics and Probability

In Mathematics, the focus has been on Statistics and Probability. The students have been exploring data interpretation, chance events, and probabilistic thinking through a variety of hands-on activities and real-world applications.

Looking Forward

As we look forward to the final weeks of the year, our calendar is packed with exciting events. Here are some key dates to mark:

  • Fun Day at Rush HQ: Tuesday, 5th December
  • Christmas Carols: Thursday, 14th December
  • Grade Six Graduation: Monday, 18th December

What's happening in 3/4

This week, in Literacy, we conclude our novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Students have really enjoyed reading this story and are excited to be watching the movie soon. We continue to read picture books about different cultures and celebrations around the world.

In Maths, we are revising the four processes (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division) as well as reviewing some of the more challenging topics we have looked at this year, such as Rules and Patterns, Time and Fractions.  Students will be involved in fun activities such as an 'escape room' to help consolidate their Maths knowledge and skills.

Our incursion, Travel Day, is on Wednesday December 6. Students will be taking a 'flight' to different countries and will be trying new foods and creating items that are special to that country. Please look on Compass for more details and payment.

Adventures of 1/2

A lot of exciting things happening in our classrooms as we head into the final weeks of the term! The students have been enthusiastically putting their performance and voice skills they have learnt during our Inquiry and Performing Arts lessons, to rehearse their Christmas Carols. We have some very keen choreographers in our unit so we are all so excited for you to see the final product on our Christmas Carols night!

In Literacy we have transitioned from our persuasive writing unit to poetry. The students have been immersing themselves in a world of poetry, where they have written a collaborative alphabet alliteration poem as a class, it was a perfectly picturesque piece of playful poetry! (See what we did there?) Moving forward, we are continuing to look at how we can use imagery to enjoy reading poetry and create our poems.

In Maths we have been revising our key numeracy concepts. We have focused on place value, addition and subtraction. We have been practicing our skills by using a range of concrete materials, games, picture representations and mental maths to support our learning.

We are looking forward to telling you all about our excursion to ACMI. This experience will put our performing skills and fairytale knowledge to the test, as our students hit the green screen to create their own stop motion film and explore the moving image exhibition.

Fantastic Foundation

In English, we continuing to learn about letter writing students have identifying the parts of a letter such as greeting, date, body and closing in the book "Dear Dinosaur" and "The Crayons Christmas" By Drew Daywalt.  They practiced writing to a dinosaur of their choice and asking the dinosaur a question. Students will be creating a display in the ELC building with their published letters from Crayons Christmas. We are currently focussing on the diagraphs, and have learnt /ck/, /ch/, and will be learning /wh/ and /th/ as we finish off the term.

In Maths, students are have been learning about sharing and measurement. They had fun comparing the weight of toy dinosaurs with classroom items last week . This week we are practising sharing a collection of items equally.  In the coming weeks we will be revising patterns with a Christmas theme. There are great opportunity to include sharing items and noticing patterns around everyday life to continue maths conversations at home.

In Inquiry, students have been learning about mime and performing these to their peers. They are looking forward to their excursion to ACMI in the city. We are continuing to learn our song for Christmas Carols.
