Community Help Needed: Transport required for donations to Galiwin'ku before September 20
We’re reaching out to our community with an urgent request. Our school has been collecting generous donations for Galiwin’ku, a remote Indigenous community on Elcho Island in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. These clothes donations are meant to arrive before their upcoming community fete (September 20th), where they will be distributed to families who need them most.
Unfortunately, we've just lost our last shipping connection from Overnewton to Darwin.
We now face a challenge: finding a cheap or free way to transport these donations from Overnewton (in Victoria) to Darwin ideally as soon as possible. From Darwin, there are existing arrangements in place to get the goods across to Elcho Island.
Volume of Materials Needing Transport
- 5 Large Bunnings Boxes,
- 6 Medium half tea chest Bunnings boxes
- 3 long plastic boxes
- 1 medium plastic box
- 4 storage bags (108 L)
What We Need
A transport company, freight service, or kind individual with access to trucks, vans, or freight space headed from Victoria to Darwin.
Even part-load or shared space would be incredibly helpful.
If you know anyone in logistics, trucking, or interstate freight, please share this message with them.
Why It Matters
Galiwin’ku is one of the most remote communities in Australia, and access to everyday necessities is limited. These donations are very helpful, for many families, they will make a meaningful difference in daily life. And with the community fete just around the corner, we have a perfect opportunity to get these goods into the right hands.
