CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FUND TRAINING AWARDS
A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of joining the Construction Training Fund Scholarship Program Awards at Optus Stadium with our Year 12’s and their families. Over the past two years, six students have been working towards completing a Certificate II PrepApp in Carpentry with SkillHire or the Cert II in Civil Construction & Resources/Infrastructure Work Preparation through Motivation Foundation in the Swan Valley.
This scholarship program provided access to mentors, business networks, and payment for driver’s licenses/lessons, helping set these students up for success. Upon completion of their training, students received $500, with an additional $500 each year once they begin apprenticeships, plus coverage for their tools. Three of the six have successfully obtained an apprenticeship.
Next year we have around 10 students expected to go through this program. Applications have closed for 2025 but more opportunities will arise in June. Please contact Mrs Johnson for further details.
WORKPLACE LEARNING
Our Year 11 General students are currently completing their two-week work placement. This opportunity gives them the chance to explore pathways that are of interest to them prior to making the big decisions of apprenticeships/study options or full-time work. I am looking forward to visiting them on site.
The Year 10 I&E students completed their final work experience in week 4 – the students have really made the most out of the opportunity to experience different sites with many being offered apprenticeships – as much as we hate to say goodbye we know you will be successful in your pathway. I really have enjoyed watching them mature and look forward to watching them grow as an individual over the next few years.
INDUSTRY & ENTERPRISE
Last week the I&E students were able to develop their Barista skills. For many of them it was the first time tasting coffee let alone making a coffee. We have had a great year of new experiences.I have really admired the incredible students that were selected to be in the program this year – their hard, respect and determination is something they should all be proud of.
