From the Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Mazenod College,
Events such as the annual College Presentation Evening held on Tuesday this week, are such an essential part of our community, not to mention a wonderfully enjoyable occasion. To think that in just under two hours, we are witness to a wonderful showcase of academic achievements, leadership, service and talents and the hard work and determination of our dedicated students and staff. Congratulations to all students who were rewarded for their academic achievements this year and heartfelt thanks to our talented musicians who performed on the evening.
An event such as this requires countless hours of preparation and we extend our thanks to Mrs Anne Greenley, Mrs Chris Pember, Mrs Tamara Laurito, Mr Brett Scarey and Mrs Theresa Checker who led the organisation. They received rich support from Mr Beau Hemley, our grounds and maintenance crew including Mr Dave Vallis, Mr Andy Etherington, Mr Andy Barnett and Mr Todd Smith and our College Leadership and Administration staff. A great highlight on these occasions are the musical performances and the audience was wonderfully entertained by the Mazenod Jazz Band, the Mazenod Concert Band and the College Choir – all conducted by the amazing, Mr Sam Graham.
Well done also to our 2025 College Captains, Nate Tomasini and Dylan Waite for being wonderful Masters of Ceremonies in their first whole school community event.
There have been two significant events in most recent weeks that mark, with reverence and reflection, the importance of those who have gone before us. I speak both from a national perspective with Remembrance Day, but also from the perspective of the Mazenod community, with a significant Eucharistic celebration, the Mazenod Old Boys Memorial Mass, held this year on All Souls Day.
I thank Mr Jeremy Logan and Fr Michael Twigg OMI, for organising and leading such a special celebration in memory for those families who share in grief and sadness, but who we hope, are comforted by this occasion to keep the names of their loved ones alive and in minds and hearts forever.
Remembrance Day is such an important day on our National calendar when we are called as Australians to remember those who died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts. Our College experienced a reverent and reflective service on Monday 11th November, as a mark of respect to all those who have suffered. Special recognition must be given to Mrs Anna Scanlan, Mr Patrick Parker and Mr Beau Hemley for organising and facilitating this special time, and to those students and staff who were involved, particularly our student leaders, College band and Joel T (Year 10) who played the Last Post and the Rouse.
“Thank God for the all the good you are accomplishing by His Grace” (St Eugene de Mazenod)
God bless.
Simon Harvey
