Senior School Report

What is happening in Senior School

The Year 10 cohort have spent much of the last week or so completing revision in their various subjects to prepare them for their upcoming exams.

They have also spent this last week working on their career action plan and for some, their interviews for Vocational Major also took place in the last two weeks.

As we are nearing the end of the school year for the Year 10 students, we are showing no signs of slowing down.

On the contrary, this past week, has seen students  sitting exams before returning to school for exam feedback and to attend an organised excursion to Swinburne University in Hawthorn.

This will be swiftly followed by the Launch Program for seven days before we head off on our final scheduled event of the Year 10 and Year11 Camp to Phillip Island. Theirschool year will conclude on Friday 6 December.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Year 10 cohort for the growth and maturity they have displayed throughout the year. Many staff have reported that many have shown a great approach towards their studies as they are nearing two years of VCE. Congratulations to those who have successfully completed the Work Experience program at the end of Term 2.

We also congratulate those who have taken part in the many excursions and programs organised throughout the year – from KIOSC excursions, university discovery days, driving programs and school-based events form fund-raisers to sporting events.

We wish you good luck with your exams and we look forward to a fabulous time at Phillip Island.

Year 12 Legal Studies

Our Year 12 Legal Studies class has been a highlight of 2024.  The students navigated Australia’s law-making system through a textbook worth of notes and a stack of mind maps, accumulating all of our knowledge in preparation for our exam.

"We completed the years course work to conclude term 3, dedicating term 4 to revision time and practice exams; 10 was our goal.

Our favourite revision activity was our whiteboard quizzes where we were tested on the year’s content and worked to accumulate points.

Unit 3 focusing on the criminal and civil justice system was a highlight for our class, learning about the ins and outs about criminal trials and dispute resolution was definitely a favourite for most.

Unit 4 focused on Parliament and the Australian Constitution, whilst it was favoured less, it was still interesting to learn about the law-making process and how we as Australians can influence law reform.

Overall, this class has been challenging yet rewarding, and we are all going to miss the class once we complete our exam".

METEC Driver Training

Mrs Shivani Sandhu and I were lucky enough to accompany a wonderful group of Year 10 and 11 students to a METEC driver training day on Monday 28 October.

The students had a great day participating in a program that provided both theory and practical driving experience.

The venue in Bayswater consisted of 5 km of closed, sealed roads, with features including traffic lights, roundabouts, rail crossings and intersections.

All driving was undertaken in dual control cars with qualified driving instructors who provided students with the best opportunity to develop safe driving techniques and skills.

Some students had previously clocked up a few hours before sitting behind the wheel having attained their L’s, whilst for others, it was their first time behind a wheel ever!

The instructors capably accommodated all levels of experience and even offered additional tuition if students had specific areas they wished to improve on such as reverse parking.

It was a great day for all in which everyone learnt something and was able to leave the experience with new gained knowledge and skills.
