Drumming Incursion with Rhythm Joe

This week the Banksia and Acacia children had a music session with Rhythm Joe. Joe brought his drum kit and a variety of musical instruments for the children to learn about and play. The children loved learning about rhythm and temp, fast and slow, high sounds and low sounds and how the size of some instruments can determine whether they make low sounds or high sounds. We had our own jam session with a variety of instruments such as guiros, frame drums, triangles, tapping sticks, tambourines and maracas. The children were extremely excited when they had the opportunity to have an individual turn playing on Joe's big drum kit. We will continue to explore different aspects of music throughout the term through collaborative group experiences and music sessions.

SHARE THE DIGNITY CHARITY DRIVE

We are supporting the charity Share the Dignity again this year. It is our 7th year collecting bags for their 'It's in the bag' campaign at BHNPSK and a charity that I enjoy showing support to.

Kinder Educators are putting together handbags for women in need and we would be grateful if you could also support this charity. If you would like to participate, please bring your filled handbag (see below) before 22nd November.  Alternatively, you can just donate some of the listed products and the charity will make up the bags.

We have three types of bags we collect! (teenager/adult and Mum &bub)More info can be found on Share the dignity website. https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/itsinthebag

Our most popular is an "Adult" bag. These bags are distributed to adults living in crisis from those experiencing homelessness, living in domestic violence refuges, indigenous communities and those doing it tough.  "Mum&Bub" bags and "Teenager" bags can also be donated.

If you're putting an "Adult" bag together, please include:

Shampoo & Conditioner-full size if it fits

Toothbrush & Toothpaste

Body wash or Soap

Roll-on Deodorant (no aerosol)

A Sealed packet of pads and tampons

We also recommend you add a couple of additional luxuries that an adult might need or that will make her feel special. eg jewellery, scarf, notebook, hand cream, lip balm, make up etc and write a nice card to go inside the bag.

Bags are due at kinder by 22nd November. The bags are then donated to charities across the country to distribute to those in need ready for Christmas.

Thank you for your support,

Narelle and the kinder team
