Year 9 students in SOSE in have been examining interconnectedness and globalisation. In many ways, the world is becoming a smaller place with our interconnections to far way places through the internet, travel and trade. Students are now completing their revision booklets for exams.

In SOSE, Year 7 students have been discovering why some cities are more liveable than others and what factors can make a city seem more attractive. Sophie, Jemma and Elsie conducted a small survey with SCC students to find out what students thought about the Kingborough Municipality and then wrote this summary of their findings:

Summary:

When we interviewed teenagers that live around the Kingborough area, they expressed that Kingborough Sports Centre is one of the safest areas. Kingston Park and Blackmans Bay beach were deemed the most unsafe. When it came to the impact these places have on the liveability of Kingborough, the sports centre and Kingston beach had the most positive impact for Kingborough, whereas Blackmans Bay beach was said to have a negative impact on the area. Kingborough Sports Centre is the most regularly visited place, with Blackmans Bay Beach and the Beach House being the least visited. The sports centre and Kingston beach are the highest place chosen to go, with Channel Court and Kingston Plaza being the least. These teenagers chose Peter Murrell Reserve as the most enjoyable to go to and Blackmans Bay beach as the least enjoyable. Overall, Kingborough Sports Centre was voted as one of the most positive places. However, Blackmans Bay beach was voted one of the most negative places.

Students in Year 7 English have been studying poetry this term, analysing techniques used by poets and writing some of their own poems. Take time to read and enjoy the creativity of writing personification poems from Bridie, David, Jemma, Paige, Andrew and Amie.

Lucy Abetz has also shared her Kindness Calendar from Christian Studies. Feel free to print it off for your family. There is one action of kindness to undertake for each day the rest of this term.

Outdoor Ed Kyaking

This term in Outdoor Ed we have been doing our kayaking unit. Students have been focusing on paddling skills and technique, trip planning, safety, risks and challenges.

We have had great weather and been blessed with the opportunity to explore God's creation for a different perspective venturing up rivers and along some of our incredible local coastline.

I was truly impressed with how far both groups have come throughout the year and their support and encouragement of each other.

Quest Surfing and Pottery

In Quest last week we had the privilege of going surfing. We were blessed with beautiful clean conditions, offshore winds, and refreshingly cool water. The students did incredibly well with many students standing up and staying up for a ride that went all the way to the shore. The support and encouragement the students gave one another was exceptional, as they shared waves and cheered each other on.

We also received back the glazed pottery from the students' latest skill set session.  It was incredible the high standard the students were able to reach across their 4 sessions.

This week we will be introducing them to kayaking, in preparation for camp.
