Prayer
1st Sunday of Advent 1/12/24
Happy New Year! The first Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of the new church (liturgical) calendar. This Sunday (the Sunday of Hope) we'll be looking at Luke 21:25-28. 34-36. This passage presents a profound reflection on the themes of vigilance, hope, and the anticipation of Christ's return. This scripture is particularly significant as it encapsulates the essence of Advent, a season dedicated to preparation and expectation of the coming of the Lord. It invites believers to reflect on the signs of the times, the hope of Christ's return, and the imperative of vigilance. It challenges individuals to remain alert to the presence of God in their lives and to prepare their hearts through prayer and acts of love. It serves as a powerful reminder that, despite the uncertainties of the world, the promise of redemption and the call to live in hope remain ever-present in the Christian faith.
God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought joy into this world,
be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre, the focus of our lives
always, and particularly this Advent time.
Amen.
