In mid-November, our Year 7 and 8 VHAP students participated in an exciting excursion as part of the Student Excellence Program. The day began with lunch at Melbourne Central, where the students enjoyed some free time to socialise and relax. Afterward, we walked together to a nearby escape room, where the real challenge began.     The escape room experience tested the students’ teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills as they tackled a series of tricky puzzles. Throughout the day, the students were exceptionally well-behaved, demonstrating our school values of Excellence, Respect and Responsibility in everything they did. It was wonderful to see them collaborating so effectively and supporting one another to solve the challenges thrown at them.

Here are some of their reflections:

“My favourite part of the escape room was the puzzle with the Lego that made numbers depending on its placement and shadows. It was a fun clue to follow and investigate within the group.” – Charlotte

“My favourite part was the second-last room where the coffin was because it was spooky.” – Ryder

“I liked how we all had to work together, even though we got scared by the piano or Barbie clue!” – Indi

“I really enjoyed the variety of puzzles across the different rooms. It made me think logically in ways that didn’t seem logical at first, like realising that a password could involve 5 forks and 6 spoons or the colours of a cupcake!” – Arabella

“Our group really struggled to unlock the final door using the piano. It took us a while to figure out the timing and speed of the keys. Afterward, the employee explained the clue, and it was so interesting to see how the piano played itself!” – Charlotte

“The piano was really hard. We tried all the different parts, but even though we thought we had it, we didn’t!” – Ryder

“The puzzle next to the wall of fingers in the third room was especially tricky. It involved pictures of people in different photos. Some people reappeared in other photos, and counting them correctly gave us a combination to unlock the next clue!” – Arabella

The day was a huge success and gave the students a chance to combine creativity, logical thinking and collaboration in a fun and unique setting. It was wonderful to see how well they embraced the experience, showcasing not just their teamwork but also their positive attitude and dedication to our College Values.  A big thank you to Year 7 and 8 VHAP students for making it such a rewarding day out.
