Final Explorations for Level 4 and Bronze Award Students

The students completed their final overnight camp during the second weekend of November, hiking 30km with full packs along the Two Bays Walking Trail. They enjoyed the views along the coastline of the Peninsula and were excellent with their efforts!  The students embraced the challenge, were responsible, respectful and extremely determined to achieve their highest levels throughout their campcraft, navigation and hiking sections. Well done to all; I am looking forward to presenting the students with their awards at the end of the year.

Silver and Gold Exploration around Mt Buffalo

Well done to all of our Silver and Gold students - we travelled to Mt Buffalo National Park for our assessed four day exploration. It was a great experience; the students clearly rose to the challenge, preparing all of their equipment and were able to be self sufficient for the entire trip. All students got involved in navigation, checking first aid and meal prep. They had to be prepared to cope with anything that would be thrown at them; intense hills or a change in the weather.  Unfortunately we had to make a quick exit from the park in the evening when a severe weather warning was issued. All students passed their exploration with flare – well done!

Compass Level 3 Exploration around Warrandyte State Park

Exploring a rainy day in a natural environment can be challenging. Our Level 3 Compass Award group had to navigate and cope in difficult conditions for their hike and expedition in Warrandyte State Park. They worked extremely well throughout the whole experience; they cooked their lunch on the Trangia stove and continued to carry their heavy hike packs around the route. I was very pleased with the qualities all of the students demonstrated. Well done Level 3 and good luck in Level 4!
