Religious Education
Throughout Term 4, Year 7 students have attended Mass at our Parish Catholic Church as part of their Religious Education unit, Communities at Prayer. It was a worthwhile experience for our learners, aiming to deepen their understanding of Catholic faith traditions. Students actively participated in communal prayer, replying with appropriate Mass responses. Representatives from our Year 7 students also offered their prayers of the faithful with specific intentions.
Visiting our Parish Church allowed our learners to engage with the rich history of our Church and gain a greater appreciation for the significance of prayer in daily life. Through attending Mass, the experience created a sense of belonging and connection to the broader Catholic community. Fr. Novie led us in prayer with the students bringing forward the offertory gifts of bread and wine for Holy Communion. The excursion also helped students to reflect on how faith traditions shape individuals and collective identities, hopefully encouraging them on their own spiritual journey, while inspiring them to embody our College values in living justice and living peace.
This week, two of our Year 7 classes were able to assist our community in wrapping presents for the aged care residents in our surrounding areas. Mrs Prue Galea, a local parishioner, visited our Kildare Campus and facilitated the learning experiences. Students wrapped calendars and decorated them with Christmas ribbons and festive paper. They also packaged up locally made and sourced shortbreads for the aged care residents.
Mrs Galea has been involved with this ministry for a number of years, spreading the message of the liturgical season of advent - hope, peace, joy and love to others. We at St Joseph College would like to thank Mrs Galea for inviting us to participate. We valued the opportunity to explore how we can serve our community while learning about the spirit of hope, compassion, and selflessness—all attributes that reflect the core values of our Catholic faith traditions.
