Music Room Notes

3/4s

This term we have been focussing on rhythm and the theme of Home. We have learned and practised a piece called Bento Box, finding different sounds on plastic containers (our in-class version of a bento lunch box) to explore timbre, used chopstick to play the beat and rhythm, found rhythms in the words of food to go in our bento box and have written rhythm sentences. To warm up our rhythm chops we have played the game Concentration to practise keeping the rhythm to the beat.

3/4shave also been singing songs from our song folder, focussing on the theme of Home as well as delving back into our favourites.

Students have been getting into Country Roads and sing it soulfully and beautifully.

We are planning to record some of our efforts to make available at the Summer Sessions/Arts & Craft Expo on December 6th.

5/6s

This term we have been exploring the theme of Home through looking at song lyrics and have continued to practise our ensemble (group) work. We are learning a new piece called Are We There Yet? on tuned and untuned percussion (as well as guitar, ukulele and voice). This piece lends itself to a jazz form where we play the “head” (the main theme) and then students are invited to solo on their instrument before returning to the head.

Year 5/6s have also been warming up their listening and dance skills with Bandle and Just Dance and exploring their own interests through an independent project.
