Big Day Out in the Big City

On Monday, the 9th of December, the Year 5/6 teachers bravely ventured into the city with the Year 6s for their Big Day Out. It was a day filled with laser tag, bowling, and enough pizza, chips, and soft drink to fuel a small army. The laser tag arena was a scene straight out of an action movie, with kids darting through the darkness, shooting each other with glee (and zero regard for their teacher’s ability to keep up). Bowling was equally impressive! Not only did the kids knock down the pins, but they also managed to lift those hefty bowling balls like pros. We capped off the day with a visit to the food court, where the students eagerly stocked up on extra snacks. It was a fantastic day of fun, laughter, and, let’s be honest, sore legs for the teachers.

Historical Narratives: Bringing the Past to Life

This term, the students dove headfirst into the world of historical narratives. For the uninitiated, historical narratives combine historical research with creative storytelling, allowing students to write stories from the perspective of historical figures. After weeks of learning how to write a historical narrative and researching, the students carefully planned and wrote their narratives, ensuring they were both accurate and engaging. The effort and care they put into these pieces was truly impressive. Imagine writing like a historian while thinking like a novelist! From soldiers to explorers and everything in between, the students brought history to life in a way that was both educational and entertaining. We’re incredibly proud of their hard work and creativity.

Future Leaders in the Making

The Year 5s recently presented their leadership speeches, and let me tell you, they were nothing short of phenomenal. These students poured their hearts and minds into writing speeches that showcased their growth, ideas, and leadership potential. Then, with courage and poise, they stood in front of their peers and teachers to deliver them. It was a proud moment for all of us to witness how far their public speaking skills have come. The anticipation is now building as we prepare to announce the leadership roles on Friday. No matter the outcome, each and every student should be proud of their efforts. They are all leaders in their own unique way.
