Swimming

For the first time, WHPS swimming time trials were held back in December. Many students confidently put their hands up, trying out for several different events. The Monash Heights District competition was held at the Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre on Thursday 13th February. This year our swim team was made up of 27 students from Years 4, 5 and 6.

WHPS students competed against 5 other schools from our district of Monash Heights. The schools in this district include Mt Waverley, Jells Park, Mount Scopus College, Burwood East and Essex Heights.

Events included: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, as well as freestyle and mixed medley relays. Three of the WHPS relay teams qualified for the Division competition and many of our individual events swimmers also progressed through to Division level.

The final scores saw WHPS with a very narrow win of just 2 points this year. This means we will be able to add the WHPS name to the Monash Heights District plaque for the second time. Such a strong start for the school moving forward in this new district. A wonderful effort.

Students who placed in the Top 4 in their event were given the opportunity to compete again at Division level on Wednesday 5th March at Boroondara Sports Complex, Balwyn. This year we have 18 students representing the school at this level.

Many thanks to all senior school staff for their continued support and assistance during this busy first term. Special thank you to Stephanie Cuddon for coming along to help us out on the day. Thank you also to those parents who volunteered their time to assist, supervise, time, and support all our wonderful WHPS students.

Finally, well done to all students who participated in the 2025 Swim try outs and competition. We were especially proud of the enthusiasm, peer support, manners, behaviour and sportsmanship displayed by all our students. Well done, thank you and we hope that many of you will volunteer to be involved in the competition again next year in 2026.
