House Art Competition

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
Art Competition for House Animals
Dear Parents,
At the end of 2024 WHPS students voted for animals and their local indigenous names to represent their houses. Houses were previously named after Australian sporting champions.
To celebrate, our students are invited to enter an art competition to recognise and learn about the indigenous animal that belong to their house. Prizes will be awarded.
Artworks can be submitted on an A4 piece of paper, based on their house animal. E.g. red house student entries will feature a kangaroo with the title Marram. There will be three competition sections: Prep to Year 2, Year 3 and 4, and Year 5 and 6. Work can be painted, drawn or collaged (without bulky elements). Animals can be playing a sport, dressed in sports apparel or you may take a different approach using your creative talent. Aboriginal elements can be incorporated but are not essential.
House Names and Animals
Red – Marram (kangaroo)
Marram (ma-rum) red coloured like the house and can jump high which you might need in some sports.
Yellow – Murnalong (native honey bee)
Murnalong (murn-ar-long) has some yellow bands and makes yellow honey like the house colour.
Green - Bundabun (turtle)
Bundabun (bun-dar-bun) is coloured green like the house and lives in green wetlands.
Blue – Bunjil (eagle)
Bunjil (bun-jill) flies high in the blue sky.
Requirements:
- Clearly write your name and class on the front of your artwork
- A4 in size
- 2D (flat)
- Animal is the focus with a suitable colour to promote your house

Prizes will be awarded for the winning entries in each section.
All completed entries can be put in the boxes near the office marked Prep-Year 2, Year 3 and 4, and Year 5 and 6. Completed work can be delivered at any time before the due date. Entries close on Monday 17th March. No late entries will be accepted.
First, second and third prize winners will be announced at the Harmony Day celebration towards the end of term and the winning artworks will be displayed in the school foyer.
