Year 4 News

The Year 4’s have had a busy start to the year, with their Swimming program every day during weeks 2 and 3 in the lead up to the Swimming Carnival on Friday this week.
Students have enjoyed a range of wellbeing activities and are settling in beautifully. The BNPS therapy dogs, Ziggy and Bonnie are also getting to know their new classmates and are coming home exhausted!
Wellbeing Activities
Our students engaged in various wellbeing activities that fostered connection. The ‘Ice-breaker’ activity demonstrated interconnectedness by the things we have in common, and the ‘Tree of Wishes’ activity fostered shared and personal goals.
Sharing the Planet Unit of Inquiry
Students are diving deep into our Sharing the Planet unit, exploring the concepts of Rights and Responsibilities, and children’s rights.
Cybersafety Incursion
Sam and Kiah from The Cybersafety Project came to present a valuable Cybersafety incursion, reinforcing how students should navigate the online world safely and how they can take responsibility for their digital wellbeing. There was rich discussion about ‘banter’ vs ‘bullying’ and how to recognise if you are becoming ‘hooked’ online. They discussed strategies to take back control.
Maths
Students are working on number sense, and our current focus is the decimal system including tenths and hundredths. We are so impressed with the way the students have engaged and applied themselves during Maths lessons. Students have also accessed Mangahigh to support their understanding of decimals both in money and place value.
Literacy
Thank you for all your support at home to decorate the students’ Writer’s Notebook. They look fantastic. Students have enjoyed using them to respond to Mentor texts, generate writing ideas and creating writing pieces. We are also enjoying our class novels as part of Listen to Reading within the Daily 5.
