Our Spec Experience
We would like to share with you our wonderful experience at the Victorian State School Spectacular 2026, “This is me”.This event brought together over 2,500 students from state schools across Victoria.
We were part of the mass choir. We started practicing at the beginning of the year, and over time we worked our way up from simply learning the songs to confidently singing and dancing with ease.
We performed at John Cain Arena, and it was a big accomplishment. Along the way, we also had rehearsals at Melbourne Town Hall and Jells Park Primary School.
In Spec, we learned many songs and dances. A lot of effort went into making it all come together, and everyone worked super hard. We all grew enormously from the experience. Performing in front of thousands helped us build confidence, resilience, and teamwork, while backstage we developed discipline, time management, and the ability to support one another.
It all began when we auditioned in mid-October 2025. About a month later, we got our results—20 students were chosen to become the 2026 WHPS Spec Team! From the start of the year, we learned the songs and dance moves, and we grooved along with the music. It was an amazing experience.
Some highlights of our year of hard work, singing, and dancing including all the rehearsals, watching ourselves grow over time, and of course, the actual performance.
We would definitely recommend Spec if you love singing, dancing, and having fun. Even if you feel a little shy, that’s okay, because everyone there is so supportive.
We feel very proud to have been part of this year’s Spectacular. It gave us the opportunity to shine in ways we never expected. The memories, skills, and friendships we made will stay with us forever.

Student Reflection

Being part of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular Mass Choir was an amazing experience that I will never forget. At first, I was a little nervous because there were so many people and I wanted to make sure I sang the right notes and words. As we practised more, I became more confident and started to really enjoy being part of the choir.
One of my favourite parts was performing on the big stage with so many other students. It felt incredible to hear everyone singing together. I also enjoyed meeting new people and making friends from different schools. We had to work as a team and listen carefully to our teachers and choir leaders.
Being in the Mass Choir taught me that practising and working together can make something really special. I learnt that even though I was only one person in a huge choir, my voice was still important. I also learnt to be more confident and not give up when something was difficult.
When it was time to perform, I felt excited and proud. Seeing the audience and hearing all the music made me realise how much effort everyone had put in. I was proud of myself for being part of such a big performance.
Overall, being in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular Mass Choir was one of the best experiences of Year 5. I will always remember the rehearsals, the friendships, the music and the feeling of performing on stage. I am really glad I got the opportunity to be part of it.

Being part of the Victorian State Schools Choir for the Victorian State School Spectacular was an experience I will never forget, and I was very grateful to be chosen.
Being in the choir involved lots of practices, commitment and hard work, including learning songs, dancing and stage movements.
The theme, "THIS IS ME" made it even more special because I got to express myself through singing and performing. One of my favourite parts of the show was singing “The Seed" by Aurora on stage, and the performance was amazing!
We also had two rehearsals at Melbourne Town Hall to prepare for the big show. I also got to meet the whole cast, who were so kind and welcoming. Behind the scenes our tutor, Clare Wever, helped the Victorian State Schools Choir improve our singing and confidence and shaped me into the singer I was on stage and the whole show.
Even with all the hard work, we had so much fun, made new friends and created amazing memories. This experience taught me to believe in myself, find my voice and be proud of who I am.
