2025 Annual Report and Public Meeting

Grazie to the stoic parents who braved the chilly winter weather to join us for this week’s Annual Public Meeting and the presentation of our 2025 Annual Report to the school community. 

It was a great opportunity to reflect on and celebrate our progress across a range of areas. Our student achievement data remains strong, including both NAPLAN and Teacher Judgement, while our Staff Opinion Survey continues to reflect a highly positive, collegial staff culture and strong trust in our leadership team. This is particularly pleasing given the significant change our staff have navigated in recent times, from the introduction of Victorian Curriculum 2.0, the Victorian Reading Position and Metodo Sillabico, to staffing and leadership changes and major improvements to our physical environment.

Our Student Attitudes to School Survey also reflects an area of which we are particularly proud; our highly responsive approach to student safety and wellbeing. We work proactively to prevent bullying and address social challenges as they arise, supported by a culture of open communication between home and school. We value that our families reach out when something isn’t quite right so that we can work insieme to address it.  

Our Parent Opinion Survey results are consistently strong, and we actively encourage as many families as possible to participate each year. Importantly, we don’t just collect the feedback, we use it. Last year, this included strengthening communication with families through our new Come Va Snapshot and regular How to support your child’s learning at home items in the newsletter. 

The survey link is on the next pages of this newsletter. It will go live on August 17th.

One area that has historically rated lower is our physical environment. After the many improvements to our buildings and grounds over the past year, we’re hoping this year’s survey might finally see that one heading upwards too!

Thank you again to those who joined us and, more broadly, to our whole community for the partnership that sits behind so much of this positive data.

Working insieme with fellow Italian bilingual school and Bilingual Schools Network

This week, members of the leadership teams from BSPS and Footscray Primary School worked insieme to contextualise the exciting new Victorian Bilingual Schools Developmental Framework, currently being developed by senior academics from the University of South Australia.

Grounded in contemporary bilingual education research, the framework will support all 11 Victorian bilingual schools to build greater consistency in expectations for language acquisition and student progress in the target language. This important work has been made possible through the close partnership between our unique bilingual settings, facilitated by the Bilingual Schools Network.

And speaking of the Network… stay tuned for details of the 2nd Annual Bilingual Schools Network Soccer World Cup, once again to be held at Darebin! Richmond West took home the trophy last year;  this year, we’re coming for it! ⚽🏆
