Lakeside School Musical - Annie Jr!
After months of dedication to learning lines, choreography, where to stand on stage and running scenes, we were finally able to present our 2023 musical production of, 'Annie JR!'. Our students really shone on stage and backstage and it was amazing to see them share their talents, support each other, and learn and grow in confidence. We've asked a few students to describe their experience in the musical.
My role in this year's production was Drake. During the nights I was nervous that I would forget my lines or forget when to get on stage, Some of the things I was unsure about were where some things were to bring on scene. Another thing I was nervous about was not tipping the tray of drinks, because in the matte I put the tray to the side instead of holding it upright. I was quickly told by everyone backstage what happened and changed it going into the Thursday and Friday Nights of the play. Something that I gained from the Musical was a fun time getting ready and talking with the people in the musical. I also talk to people that I never thought I would talk to. I have also learned how to have fun with anyone and gain new friends along the way.
See you all next year :)

I was the Backstage Manager.
The way that the lighting was going to be used in conjunction with the use of the backdrop, mid-curtain, and props that had to be constantly moved on and off stage between different scenes.
Since I had to do a lot more stuff behind the scenes compared to last year, I got a bit more of a taste of what it’s like working backstage. I found it fascinating being in “the heavens” (the room upstage), and being able to see all of the inner workings of the tech that powers the stage. I am hoping to get a job working at the cultural center part-time as a tech there if possible and will be looking for any vacancies there.

My role was Tessie. I loved Tessie because she is very funny and cute. I loved being in the production because I got to meet more incredible people and make memories with my teachers and friends. I was very nervous about mucking up my lines because I didn't want to let anyone down. I was so nervous about my lines so I practiced them every day with my friends Sinuki and Rosalie. As I got on stage my nerves were gone. I wasn't nervous at all. What I got out of the musical was I am better at memorizing my lines and getting better at quick changes for dance!

My character's name was Ms Hannigan, I was nervous about my singing and trying to hit the high notes. I was worried about forgetting my lines, choreography and falling on stage due to the heels. From the musical, I gained more confidence and made some great friends.

In the recent “Annie Junior JR!” musical, I took the role of Oliver Warbucks. And simply put, I enjoyed every moment of it! Without the hard work done by everyone involved in the musical, it would never have reached such a high standard. Yet here we are, cherishing every single moment of the musical! Yet, with this role came many things that others and myself were nervous about. However, with rehearsal and practice, I was able to easily overcome things such as my tendency to speak quickly (and as a result mumble! ) and not exaggerate myself on stage. However, as soon as I learnt this, it was VERY easy to correct! Throughout the musical, I benefited as I gained an unforeseen confidence increase, as well as taking a newfound interest in drama and performing arts! And overall, the musical was an unforgettable experience to say the very least. I’ll be sure to consider joining the musical next year for another memorable experience!
