The Season of Creation

Prepare for the Season of Creation 2023

The Season of Creation is the ecumenical celebration we hold each year from September 1, World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, to October 4th, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

Every year, Christians around the world, from across denominations, commit the month of September as a season to celebrate God’s beautiful Earth, and renew our shared commitment to preserving and restoring that beauty.

The symbol “A mighty river” has been chosen to go with the theme ‘Let justice and peace flow.’ This represents biodiversity at risk. There is a growing urgency for humans to take notice and make visible peace with Earth and on Earth, at the same time that justice calls us to a change of attitude and actions. When we join the river of justice and peace together with others, it creates hope instead of despair.

Think of yourselves as tributaries coming together to form a mighty river.

Our individual actions during the Season of Creation are important. Celebrating creation, participating in cleanups, planting trees and reducing our carbon footprint are some of

the immediate actions we can take.
