6V

Teaching and Learning

The last few weeks have been non-stop for 6V! We’ve been busy working at our Year 6 and Prep Musical numbers, but have also stopped along the way to enjoy a full range of school experiences!

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

On Friday 18th of August, we stopped to discuss the actions that we could take as individuals to address any of our own conduct and behaviour that could be contributing to bullying and what the better courses of action are rather than resorting to violence. To this end, we signed a commitment that we would stand up against violence and bullying and call it out if we saw it. We also spoke about the way we relate to others, and shared some time with 1C working on a colouring activity to support the day’s message.

Maths

Our recent areas of focus in Maths has been area, perimeter, volume, and capacity. We played with water and various-sized containers to explore our understanding of the different measurements used in capacity, as well as to see how many smaller containers the bigger containers hold. Students had a blast, with some even going as far as filling litre bottles using empty 20mL medication syringes!

We’ve also been using centimetre cubes to explore the formula for finding volume, and discussing efficient and inefficient methods in calculating how much volume an object takes up.

Book Parade

It was great to see lots of the Year 6 students participating so wholeheartedly in the Book Parade this year! We had some outstanding themed costumes and group efforts – although the Year 6 teachers won in that area with our term text The Watertower theme (at least that’s what we tell ourselves in our hearts)!
