4A

Teaching and Learning

This semester, 4A has been excited to take part in the Farm program. It has been wonderful to have the farm and gardens back in action after the renovations, with our lovely new sensory garden and pond.

We began our farm program with a focus on safety, learning how to move around the farm whilst ensuring students and animals remained safe at all times.  We then explored the different tools and equipment that we use throughout the program and how to carry and use them safely.

Students participated in an obstacle course on the basketball courts where they were learning how to safely load and push a wheelbarrow.

A highlight of the weekly farm program is feeding the chickens, sheep and goat, as well as collecting the eggs and singing happy birthday to Sal!

Spring is nearly here, and we have been learning about mini greenhouses and how they help seeds to germinate. We have researched which seeds should be planted in the season of August and September, and have selected to plant a range of seeds including carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and lettuce.

We have been carefully watering and watching our mini greenhouses over the past two weeks and can’t believe how much our seeds have grown!  It won't be long before we will need to plant them in the farm garden where we have been busily preparing the garden beds. We can’t wait to eat them!
