3-Year-Old Kinder
Book Week
The children showed joy as they dressed up in character costumes for the Book Week celebration.
Children’s author Russell Svigos visited the ELC during the day to read his picture story books: “Dewey the little raindrop”, “Dewey and the other snowflakes”, and “What’s stomata with Dewey?” to the three-year-old ELC class. The children were able to learn how he made the illustrations using technology, and viewed the stories on both the interactive whiteboard and the books. The children engaged with literacy as they learned about the water cycle.
Father’s Day Celebration
Thank you to all of the special visitors who came to the ELC to celebrate Father’s Day with the three-year-old class. The children were extremely excited to play games and engage in fun activities with their special grown up. The children did a fantastic job of singing “I love my Daddy”, and were very pleased to present their grown-ups with the toolboxes and Father’s Day cards they have been busily working on this term. We hope that everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day weekend.

Father’s Day Evening
A celebration of the children’s Dad’s was a special evening with the theme being a Games night. With competitive spirits the children engaged in familiar and new games with their Dads showing their counting, literacy and cooperative skills they have learnt throughout their kindergarten sessions. 20 families attended the evening and explored the indoor rooms as well as the outside play environment during this time.
In the weeks leading up to this event the children drew their favourite memory they have had with their Dad on a white mug. This accompanied a special card where they gave answers to questions such as how old is Dad? And what does he like to eat?
A hands-on activity was offered in the evening for the children to make a BBQ spice rub with their Dad’s: learning to read and follow a recipe and measure ingredients together before placing it in a spice jar to take home.
We hope all the Father’s had a wonderful evening and Father’s Day last Sunday.
Prep Transition Visit
The second visit was as enjoyable as the first with the Kindergarten students eager to return to the Prep classrooms with Mrs Bolden and Mrs Martin. After learning everyone's names, the students were able to participate in the current Prep/1 timetabled class of Developmental Play.
The Kindergarten students were able to showcase their packing up still, stopping when a teacher is talking and lining up when hearing a teacher countdown from ten to one.
Book Week
A much loved and waited for celebration of literature finally arrived and the children were thrilled to dress up as their favourite characters.
A special thanks to Mrs Champion who had been using their library lessons to read the shortlisted stories to the class in the weeks leading up. Mr Svigos also was our author visit for the week, bringing in his water themed stories to teach the children about “Dewey” and how he investigates water cycles. The children then received their own Dewey toy to remember this special visit.
Exploring God’s World: Australia
Our final continent to explore was Australia. The children have worked incredibly hard to navigate 7 topics in this small time frame. Looking after Australia was the main theme this week as the children researched how to take care of the beaches and place rubbish in bins at the water tray, and interact with the story of wombat stew in the sandpit using the mud kitchen to recreate the story.
Australia Flora was presented through observing real plants at the easel and inviting the children to focus on the beauty God has planted around Langwarrin and then using fine paint brushes, trying to replicate the image onto paper. Chloe and her Mum were able to show us photos of their adventure day to Balnarring as a family when they came across shark eggs. This was a wonderful learning experience and one so close to home. Thankyou Kiyomi and Chloe for your time showing us these images.
They concluded the topic by drawing the Torres Strait, Indigenous and Australian flags in their personal passports.
End of Term Dates
ELC4 will finish at 3.00pm om Wednesday 13th September and ELC3 will finish for Term 4 on Friday 15th September at an earlier finish time of 2:30pm.
