Principal's Message

Dear Families,

This first week of Spring has certainly thrown many different weather patterns our way, even dramatic changes in one day! Hopefully the sunshine and warmth we glimpsed this week is a sign of the beautiful weather to come.

Melbourne in September is great, especially now that the AFL finals are here and there’s some pretty good teams involved! The Premiership race is wide open, with any of the 8 teams playing finals able to win it!  Good luck to all teams involved this weekend. Go Blues!

Holy Saviour Trivia Night

Our Holy Saviour Trivia Night will be our major fundraiser for the year and will be held on Saturday 7th October. It will be a wonderful event with lots of fun games, exciting prizes and of course plenty of trivia! Tickets are on sale now and will sell fast, so be sure to get your tickets early and get studying! https://www.trybooking.com/CLFIT

We would love some help!  We are calling for any volunteers who would be able to assist leading up to the event and on the night. Please contact School Advisory Council Chairperson, Belinda Saville, to register your interest (binndy20@gmail.com).

We are also grateful for any donations of goods, vouchers or services to be used for raffle prizes, silent and live auctions, or even spot prizes throughout the night. Any and all donations are welcome and your business will be promoted on the night and in our newsletter. Please contact Belinda Saville (binndy20@gmail.com) or bring your donations directly to the school office.

Footy Colours Day & Tiwi Islands Fundraiser

On Wednesday 13th September, we will be celebrating our Footy Colours Day where children can come to school dressed in their team's colours.  We are going to combine this with a special fundraiser for the Tiwi Islands, specifically for the restoration of the 82 year old church on Bathurst Island. Between now and Wednesday 13th September, we are asking you to collect as many coins as you can, and we are going to aim to fill a large football which will be drawn on the playground. We will then collect all the coins, and make a donation to Wurrumiyanga Catholic Parish on Bathurst Island to help them restore their church.

The SAC will also be arranging a special Footy Hot Dog lunch. Children can order:

Hot Dog Lunch - $7 for a hot Dog, apple/orange juice and a chocolate chip mini muffin bar (extra hot dogs $4).

Please place your orders on CDFpay. Orders close on Tuesday 12th September, 11m.

Footsteps Dance Company Program

As part of our Performing Arts program, next term, we will begin a 10-week dance program with Footsteps Dance Company.  The program has been specifically designed to allow students to practice and perform fundamental movement skills using different body parts. The students will incorporate the 4 elements of dance - Space, Time, Relationships and Dynamics whilst performing movement sequences. An opportunity for students to create their own moves has been included during the program. A range of dance styles and music is used throughout the program to ensure maximum engagement levels.  At the end of the program, there will be a parent presentation which will coincide with the Family Christmas Picnic on Thursday 7th December.

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools - School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS)

Thank you to the families who have already completed the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools - School Improvement Surveys. It has taken them, on average, only 20 minutes to complete the survey! These anonymous surveys provide extremely valuable feedback on many aspects of our Holy Saviour educational environment. Staff, students and parents' feedback help paint a complete picture of the current climate and consequently help set goals for our future School Improvement Plans. The data collected will be used as part of our four yearly review next year. Emails were sent to families at the beginning of last week with your unique login information, if you have lost it, please let me know and I will send it through to you again.

Google & Facebook Reviews

As we all know, word of mouth is the most important tool for sharing the successes of our school in our local community.  We invite our community to leave a review of Holy Saviour on our Facebook page and on Google. Thank you to the generous families who have already left a review in this space.🙏

Final Thoughts... Long Service Leave & Thanks!

As mentioned earlier this term, I will be taking 3 weeks of Long Service Leave (including 2 weeks of school holidays) from next Monday 11 September to Wednesday 4 October. Together with my wife Nola and children Abbie and Bodhi, we will take this opportunity to spend time together travelling Japan, visiting Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto & Hiroshima. I feel blessed to be able to take this time knowing that the school will be in the capable hands of Jenni Kilkenny as Acting Principal who will be strongly supported by the Leadership Team.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people in our community who have contributed in a positive way to our school: parents, teachers, support staff and our students. No matter how big or how small your contribution, you are helping make Holy Saviour a great school for your child to attend each day.

On behalf of everyone at Holy Saviour, I would like to wish everyone a very safe, happy and relaxing break. For those of you who are travelling, travel well and stay safe. For those of you remaining at home, enjoy the time with your children. We look forward to starting with you again on Monday 2nd October.

Kind regards,

Steve Evans
