Dear Karoo Community,
Our school values of Personal Excellence, Tenacity and Kindness underpin all that we do at Karoo PS. To ensure that our values are at the forefront of our minds our Wellbeing Student Leadership Team begins each day at Karoo with a welcome announcement. This includes updates for the day and an inspirational quote to inspire our community.

'Wominjeka/Welcome to a great day at Karoo PS. We are members of the student wellbeing leadership team. Today's weather will be sunny and 20 degrees. The quote of the day is 'No act of kindness, no matter how small, goes unnoticed. Can you brighten someone's day today?' We hope you have a brilliant day!
As educators and parents, we all want our students and children to grow up to be not just successful, but also kind and resilient individuals. Teaching them the values of kindness and tenacity from an early age can have a profound impact on their overall wellbeing and future success. Here's why these qualities are so important and how you can foster them in your primary school child's life.
Kindness: A Lifelong Gift
Kindness is more than just being polite or sharing toys; it's about understanding, empathy, and compassion towards others. When children learn to be kind, they develop stronger interpersonal skills, build positive relationships, and contribute to a more harmonious world. Encourage acts of kindness by setting an example, discussing feelings, and emphasizing the importance of helping others. Teach your child to put themselves in someone else's shoes to understand how their actions might affect others. When they experience the joy of making someone's day better, they'll be motivated to continue practicing kindness.
Tenacity: The Path to Success
Tenacity, or the ability to persevere through challenges, is a crucial trait that lays the foundation for success. When children learn to face obstacles with determination, they develop resilience, problem-solving skills, and a growth mindset. Instead of shying away from difficulties, they learn to embrace them as opportunities to learn and grow. Encourage your child to set achievable goals, celebrate their progress, and reassure them that setbacks are a normal part of any journey. Share stories of famous individuals who overcame obstacles through sheer tenacity to inspire them.
Fostering Kindness and Tenacity
Model Behavior: Children learn by example. Display acts of kindness in your daily life and let your child witness your determination in achieving your goals.
Open Communication: Create an environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their feelings, challenges, and triumphs. Listen actively and offer guidance without imposing solutions.
Praise Effort: Instead of solely praising achievements, celebrate the effort they put into tasks. This helps them understand that hard work and perseverance are valuable.
Encourage Empathy: Read books or watch movies that highlight the importance of empathy and kindness. Discuss the characters' actions and feelings together.
Problem-Solving Practice: Engage in age-appropriate problem-solving activities that require patience and creative thinking. This can be puzzles, riddles, or building projects.
Teach Gratitude: Help your child recognise the positive aspects of their life. Encourage them to express gratitude, which can boost their overall outlook on life.
Celebrate Setbacks: When your child faces challenges, remind them that setbacks are stepping stones to success. Help them identify lessons learned and how they can improve.
In nurturing kindness and tenacity in your child, you are equipping them with tools that will benefit them throughout their lives. By fostering these qualities, you are not only contributing to their personal growth and happiness but also to the betterment of society as a whole.
Karoo Primary School is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people and their families. We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.
Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students. We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments. We promote positive relationships between students and adults and between students and their peers. These relationships are based on trust and respect. We take proactive steps to identify and manage any risk of harm to students in our school environment.
When child safety concerns are raised or identified, we treat these seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly. Particular attention is given to the child safety needs of Aboriginal students, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, international students, students with disabilities, those unable to live at home, and any students experiencing risk or vulnerability.
Child safety is a shared responsibility. Every person involved in our school has an important role in promoting child safety and wellbeing and promptly raising any issues or concerns about a child’s safety.
I hope you all have a fantastic fortnight and I look forward to seeing you around our school!
Kind Regards,
