Learning over the holidays

Students will often learn at different rates. This difference in learning can be a result of a number of factors, one of which can be the impact of what we call the “forgetting curve”.

This is something students or even adults encounter when they have learnt a new skill and feel as though they “know it”. However, if we don’t use the skill for a while, we can lose the information and sometimes even need to relearn it.

The key to students not losing their learning is ongoing repeated practice at the time of learning and then later interval practice every few weeks. This supports students to make stronger connections in their brains that allow them to find and apply the skill automatically at a later date.

This loss of learning can often occur over holidays or long breaks from school. To ensure your children continue to practise and embed their learning, we have a number of activities on our Home Learning Portal for them to access over the break. You can also ask your teacher for hard copy activities to practise at home.
