A Message from the Acting Assistant Principal

Mrs Chelsea McKeown

Meet the teacher

We look forward to seeing all of you at our Meet the Teacher and Welcome BBQ tonight (Thursday 19th February). Your time, engagement and commitment to your child’s education are truly appreciated. This meeting is an essential part of building strong home-school partnerships as they provide a valuable opportunity for open communication, shared insights and goal-setting to ensure that every child feels supported in their learning journey here at St Martha’s. Your involvement reinforces the message that education is a team effort and we are grateful for your collaboration.

Stage 3

Amadeus Music Program

Our Amadeus program is underway for Years 3 to 6. The students will have a 3 week rotating timetable. Each student will have the opportunity to work with their tutors for a 30-minute group tutorial for two of the three weeks. In the other week they will work with the tutors in an ensemble with the other strings or concert band students.

Notre Dame University Occupational Therapy Students

In Week 5, we will welcome six Occupational Therapy students from Notre Dame University. The aim for their placement is to gain real-world experience working with children and teachers in a school setting. The placement will run for 10 weeks, with the students attending the school every Tuesday.

Their focus, while at St Martha’s will be on developing students’ gross and fine motor skills as well as essential handwriting skills. The Occupational Therapy students will be working in a number of target classes as well as offering small group support in class across the school.

Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

The school-wide rules at St. Martha’s are:

  • Be Responsible
  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful

As part of these rules, we use a matrix, with a clearly defined set of expected behaviours.

Throughout the term, students are actively engaged in lessons and activities that define our school rules and encourage expected behaviours. Teachers will offer tokens when they see expected behaviours on the playground. Tokens are then added to the token containers, leading toward a whole school reward.

We encourage you to ask your children, “Did you receive a token today?” and find out what it was for. This dialogue will help reinforce the expected behaviours and develop the intrinsic motivation for your children to continue showing these behaviours.
