Great beginnings in 3-4TG

We have had a stellar start to the year in 3-4TG.
During the first few weeks we have settled into our new routines and expectations, focusing strongly on supporting our students become more independent in their everyday organisation and readiness to begin tasks.
Our Families
We love our families so much and have created a display of our family photos. Part of getting to know each other in the new school year is sharing stories and experiences we have with our families. We have been talking about our families and our favourite things to do together.
Wild Robot
We feel lucky to be exploring a fabulous novel this term, called The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. Each lesson we read together and follow the storyline, meeting new characters and experiencing the latest adventure. From this novel study we are exploring new vocabulary and working on improving our writing through sentence-level activities, learning about nouns and improving our structure of paragraphs. We are all looking forward to watching the movie with all the other 3-4 classes at the end of term.
Shrove Tuesday / Ash Wednesday
We love pancakes!
On Shrove Tuesday, we gathered together on the fake grass for a 3-4 level shared morning tea of pancakes and toppings. We have learned that Shrove Tuesday is also called Pancake Tuesday, and around the world it has other names, like Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday. We know that people used up all the rich foods in their houses before Lent began, so Shrove Tuesday was a feasting day before the sacrifices of Lent, which included cooking and eating pancakes.
On Ash Wednesday we went to church with our 1-2 buddies and received the ashes on our foreheads. The ashes are made from burning palm leaves from the previous Palm Sunday and mixing the ashes with blessed water or oil. We felt special and understood that the ashes represent a promise to try our best to become a better person, like Jesus, during Lent.
Lunar New Year
The Year of the Fire Horse has begun! So many of our families celebrated this special time! We really enjoyed talking about it in class and learning all about the significance of the celebration and the traditions.
