New - Shrove Tuesday
A joyful Shrove Tuesday celebration at St Mary's.
Yesterday our students enjoyed making and sharing pancakes as part of our Shrove Tuesday celebrations. It was wonderful to see so many smiles, helping hands, and happy faces as classes came together to cook and enjoy this special tradition.
Special thanks to our maintenance team for all their preparation and set-up, and to Maree, P&F Members and our many generous helpers who assisted with the cooking throughout the day — we truly appreciate your time and support.
A very joyful way to mark the beginning of Lent tomorrow as a faith community.
The Grade 1's enjoyed creating sequenced pictures that showed how to prepare pancakes and thoroughly enjoyed eating them.
As part of Shrove Tuesday students were asked to bring a gold coin donation for Caritas and Project Compassion. Our Faith and Justice Leaders and the Social Justice Team helped our P&F to promote Caritas during the making of our pancakes.
For over 55 years, the Catholic aid agency, Caritas, has assisted the world’s most vulnerable people. Caritas work with communities to help them achieve their development goals and build a better future for all community members.
Each year, Catholic schools in the Sandhurst Diocese support the work of Caritas through Project Compassion.
Yesterday the Project Compassion boxes were sent home with each student. It is hoped that loose change and financial contributions will be placed in the boxes before they are returned to school by the end of Term One.
New - St Mary’s School Swimming Sports Day
Another super day of learning, fun and team spirit at St Mary's Mooroopna.
Our inaugural St Mary’s Swimming Sports Day at the Mooroopna Pool was a tremendous success, with students in Grades 3–6 displaying outstanding enthusiasm, participation, and team spirit throughout the day.
It was wonderful to see almost every student hop into the pool and proudly score points for their house. The competitive events were hotly contested, while the novelty events brought plenty of excitement, laughter, and enjoyment for all involved. The encouragement and positive sportsmanship shown by students towards their peers truly reflected the strong sense of community at St Mary’s.
A special thank you to Mrs Dyke, Miss Cooper and Mr Watts for their outstanding organisation and support in making the day such a success. Thanks to the supporting staff during the day too!
Go Team St Mary’s!
House spirit was evident all day, and the final points tally highlighted just how close the competition was, with only 200 points separating all four houses. Congratulations to Archer House, who were the overall champions on the day.
We are incredibly proud of our students for the way they participated, supported one another, and represented their houses with pride. Thank you to staff and families who supported this wonderful event we look forward to many more St Mary’s Swimming Sports in the years to come.
Once again, special thanks to Mr Watts for organising such a fun day - we are already excited for next year!
New - Maths in Grade 1
For maths in Grade One last week, we were learning how to use tally marks and hoe to gather data to create picture graphs.
New - Carlton AFL visits St Mary's
Recently, our Grade 3–6 students were lucky enough to welcome Carlton AFL players Adam Cerra, Ashton Moir, Blake Acres, and rookie Talor Byrne for a special visit.
Students enjoyed a fantastic Q&A session, asking thoughtful questions and hearing firsthand about life as an AFL footballer, before heading outside for a kick-to-kick with the players.
Safe to say the most excited person in the school was Mrs Davkovski.
A huge thank you to the Carlton Football Club for inspiring our students and creating such a memorable experience!
New - News from the Art Room

It’s a wonderful way to honour our history of 90 years and reflect on the story of St Mary’s. We invite families to take a moment to stop by and enjoy the display when you’re next at school.
