A Dynamic Start to the Final Year
Term 1 has officially concluded. It has been an action-packed start to the year for our Year 12 cohort, filled with personal challenges, academic focus, and a commendable display of school spirit.
Building Connections at Camp Manyung
We commenced the year at Camp Manyung in Mount Eliza. Over three days, students immersed themselves in snorkelling, kayaking, high ropes, archery, and leadership games. It was fantastic to see our seniors challenging themselves with new experiences and stepping out of their comfort zones. More importantly, the camp provided a relaxed environment for students to strengthen friendships and build positive relationships with their teachers before the academic year intensified.
Leadership and Pride
As we returned to campus, the focus shifted to teaching, learning, and the commencement of SACs. A highlight of the term has been seeing our students moving around the college in their new Year 12 jackets. These jackets serve as a significant symbol of leadership and dedication. Our seniors are wearing them with pride, representing both their individual hard work and the strong sense of camaraderie within the cohort.
Athletics Carnival: A Final Milestone
A major highlight this term was the whole-school Athletics Carnival at Casey Fields the final one for our Class of 2026. The Year 12s made it truly memorable, arriving at the track in an impressive array of costumes. From sprinting the 100m event dressed as dinosaurs, police officers, and maids, to taking on the staff in the relay races, the day was filled with house spirit, karaoke, and plenty of laughter.
Celebrating Success
To conclude the term, we held our Celebration Assembly, a wonderful opportunity to recognise the diverse achievements of our Year 12 cohort. We proudly acknowledged students who maintained a 4.0 Grade Point Average and congratulated those who achieved 100% attendance and perfect punctuality. Additionally, we celebrated students who consistently demonstrate our school’s SWPBS values of being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible, rewarding their positive contributions to our college culture
Looking Ahead
While the final year of school can be a demanding period, we are incredibly proud of the resilience and determination our students have shown so far. We are excited to share this journey with them and encourage them to continue supporting one another as they navigate the challenges ahead.
Finally, a sincere thank you to our school community and the dedicated Senior School staff who go above and beyond to ensure our students feel supported, challenged, and engaged.
Congratulations to all our Year 12 students on a successful Term 1.
Upcoming Year 12 Events
Term 1 has been a highly successful and productive start to the academic year for our Year 11 cohort. We recognise that the transition from Year 10 to Year 11 represents a significant step up in both academic expectations and personal responsibility, and we are incredibly proud of the maturity, resilience, and commitment our students have demonstrated throughout the term.
Overall, student attendance and punctuality have been positive, reflecting a strong level of engagement with their learning. However, there remains room for improvement, particularly in relation to late arrivals. As we move into Term 2, we will be placing a greater emphasis on punctuality to ensure students are maximising their learning time. We also kindly remind families that medical certificates are required for any absences due to illness, as this is an important part of maintaining accurate attendance records.
This term has been filled with a wide range of activities and opportunities for student involvement, and we are pleased to report that our students have embraced these experiences with enthusiasm. We were fortunate to enjoy excellent weather for our Senior Athletics Day, which was a fantastic display of school spirit. It was particularly pleasing to see so many students participating, dressing up, and supporting their peers. In addition, several of our students achieved outstanding results in swimming and have progressed to the next stage, qualifying for the state finals an impressive accomplishment. Earlier this week, the Year 11 cohort attended an excursion to Bounce, where students not only enjoyed a well-earned break, but also represented the school with pride and exemplary behaviour. Experiences such as these play an important role in strengthening peer connections and fostering a positive cohort culture. Many students left the excursion with huge smiles on their faces and expressed genuine appreciation for the opportunity. Planning for the next celebration assembly has already commenced, and we look forward to recognising further student achievements.
Looking ahead, Term 2 promises to be even busier, with a number of important events and commitments. The Senior School Cross Country is scheduled for the 23rd of April, and we encourage all students to get involved and support this event. Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) will take place during Weeks 7 and 8. We are still awaiting the return of a significant number of SWL forms, and it is essential that these are submitted as soon as possible. Participation in SWL is a vital component of the VCE-VM program, as it provides valuable real-world experience that directly complements students’ classroom learning.
In preparation for the upcoming examination period occurring in week 8, we encourage students to use the holiday break productively by revising content covered throughout Term 1 and complete their holiday homework for all of their VCE subjects. Developing summary notes and consolidating key concepts will place students in a strong position ahead of their assessments. It is expected that all students attend each of their scheduled exams. Additionally, students enrolled in Unit 3/4 subjects will be required to sit the General Achievement Test (GAT) on the 16th of June, which is an important assessment within the VCE framework.
Finally, we would like to inform families that confirmation has been received from the uniform shop that blue pants are now available for purchase, along with white tops that are required to be worn underneath school jumpers and jackets. We appreciate your support in ensuring students are in correct uniform.
Please be safe and enjoy your Easter. We look forward to seeing the students back on the 21st of April after a good well earnt holiday!
