Systemic Knowledge

Systemic Knowledge – Science (Biological Science) Year 1
This term in Systemic Knowledge, our Year 1 students will be learning about Biological Science, with a focus on the topic 'Survival Needs of Animals and Plants'.
Students will explore the big question: What do living things need to survive?
Through activities, discussions and investigations, students will learn that all plants and animals have basic needs, including air, water, food and shelter. They will also discover that the places where living things live, called habitats provide what they need to grow and stay healthy.
Throughout the term, students will:
- Identify the basic needs of plants and animals
- Explore different habitats and how they meet those needs
- Compare living and non-living things
Observe how living things depend on their environment.

Through stories, discussions, creative activities and collaborative tasks, students will learn about their personal qualities, emotions and identities. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL):
We will continue to work through the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships Program (RRRR). This program supports schools and early childhood settings in promoting and modelling respect, positive attitudes, and behaviours. It
teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience, and confidence.
Using the RRRR Program, and with support from Open Parachute and Zones of Regulations, we aim to help build positive social interactions across our class and the whole school community.
