Worm Farming at WHS:

I used to be a deputy assistant sheep farmer - I grew up on a farm - but now our WHS children can be Worm Farmers, no deputy assistant about it.

Here's a report from Whaea Nicole, our extraordinary Bush School teacher, ecologist, environmentalist, and all-around awesome person.

The EcoMatters environment trust has funded the purchase of two worm farms to add to our ever-growing kete (basket) of sustainable practices at Western Heights.

The Wednesday Bush School crew came up with a plan, assembled the farm (which was surprisingly easy) and met our new friends, approximately 2000 tiger worms.

Vermicomposting, along with cold composting, is one of the many experiences tamariki will encounter on their Bush school day. Scrap collection bins have been placed in some classes and, more importantly, in the staffroom, because worms like coffee just as much as the teachers!

Nga mihi nui EcoMatters for your support. Here is their website if you want more info about what they do: https://www.ecomatters.org.nz/for-homes/
