Stories from the Library

At John Paul II our students are enjoying the benefits of our new, purpose-built library with a carefully curated selection of fantastic new books. These resources support the curriculum and literature enrichment.

To continue celebrating reading at John Paul II, last week we commenced the Premier’s Reading Challenge. More information about this is available on their website - https://www.decyp.tas.gov.au/about-us/events/premiers-reading-challenge/

Students are encouraged to write down all the books they have read on their PRC Form, or for younger students, have someone else write down books that have been read to them. Awards for effort and achievement in reading will be given during our Book Week Parade in August.

“Libraries are treasure troves of knowledge, wisdom, imagination, emotion....”

John Marsden, author

"Every school needs a school library—it’s a no-brainer. Reading underlies every area of the curriculum, and the key is having a well-stocked school library and a passionate school librarian who can put the right book into the right hands at the right time."

Andy Griffiths & Terry Denton, author and illustrator.

“Libraries matter, literacy matters. Let’s get behind our teacher librarians and our libraries, give them the resources they need to help Australian kids soar in their literacy levels and have really bright futures.” Tristan Bancks, author.

As a regular visitor to primary schools for over twenty years, I’ve seen that each school's library is like a special garden, tended to with great care and passion by a resident librarian or teacher-librarian. These are places of discovery, storehouses of ideas, sanctuaries for further reading, places for training in research, avenues for events and, crucially, places with skilled staff to help and encourage all who enter with their learning.
