FRUITS FOR OUR FUTURE SCHOOL PROJECT

Recently we ran a survey with students and staff to see which fruit they wanted to see growing at our school. We have included the results from our survey in this newsletter. The top 5 fruit were:

  • Strawberries (95 votes)
  • Raspberries (81)
  • Apples (72)
  • Grapes (60)
  • Lemons (54)

We will be using this data to help us purchase new fruit trees for our school. Special thanks to our Grade 5/6 Sustainability Leaders for running the fruit survey and collating all the data.

EXCURSION NEXT WEEK

Next Thursday, 4th July, we are taking our Grade 5/6 Sustainability Leaders to visit the Howrah Garden Centre to order a range of fruit trees to plant at school next term. We will also be visiting the Warrane Community Garden to learn all we can about planting, growing and harvesting fruit.

STRAWBERRY PLANTS GALORE

This term we have been learning how to grow new strawberry plants by splitting up older plants. Preps, Grade 2, 4 and 5/6 students have helped us to pot up over a 100 new strawberry plants. We will plant these into new garden beds in Spring and hopefully pick our own fresh strawberries in Summer.

Our Grade 2 students had the opportunity to make Thumbprint Cookies which turned out amazing!  Have a look at our photos below of the students cooking.
