MAKING MUSIC
MUSIC - DESCRIBING COLOURS THROUGH SOUND & SENSES
Term two has been a very busy time in music, with many students attending a TSO excursion in Week 8. The theme for the concert was “Words and Music”. The orchestra played some music based on the “Black Book of Colour”, a wonderful picture book written for people with vision impairment. We were exploring how we can describe colours through sound (or senses other than sight) in preparation for the concert.
Some of the descriptions imagined by Grade 1 students include:
“Blue sounds like waves crashing in the sea” (Nate)
“White and black sound like thunder.” (Meadow)
“Red crunches like an apple.” (Grace)
“Green is cut grass flying from the lawnmower.” (Alexander)
Mackillop Band Program workshop
Grade 5 and 6 students who participate in the MacKillop Band Program also travelled to Guilford Young College to attend a full-day workshop with students from Sacred Heart. Cleo, Nora, Molly, Layla, Davi, Brock and Maddie all worked hard on their chosen instruments (clarinet, trumpet or saxophone) to prepare and present three pieces for a concert in the afternoon. A great day was had by all, with amazing growth and learning opportunities for our students who have been diligently practicing their instruments since the beginning of the year.
