GRADE 1 | Skittle Fun!!

Last Friday our Grade One students had some fun with Skittles!

First we demonstrated our knowledge of gathering data, creating a graph with the information we collected and answering some questions about the data. We had a small packet of Skittles each and organised them in colour groups, seeing the most and least popular colours in our packets.

Then we used our Skittles in a science experiment. We began by predicting what would happen to our Skittles if we sat them in some warm water. Making predictions is important because our students are able to make connections to their prior knowledge, and in our case, their prior experiences. We spoke about making observations in an experiment, and we spent time watching what happened and using descriptive language to explain what we saw.

Some of the students’ observations included:

I saw the colours dissolving” Lorenzo

The Skittles have become white on the bottom where all the colour has gone from” Tate

The colours look like tie dye!” Remi

We definitely enjoyed eating some of the Skittles too!
