Reading in Prep B
With Miss Sammut
In Prep B we read the big book ‘Wombat Stew’ and learned to make text to self connections between the book and our own experiences. We also learned how to write a recipe which included listing the ingredients and the method to instruct someone how to make wombat stew. While reading we learned new words such as: billycan, billabong, brewing, quills, slurp, gooey, bubbling and chewy. We had fun exploring the meaning of these words.
Billycan
Billabong
Quills
Slurp
We then had a lot of fun thinking about the stew that the dingo made that he thought he would really love, before he was tricked by the other animals of course, and we then thought about our favourite food and or drink that we really enjoy eating/drinking. We wrote about this text to self connection and drew a picture to match.
We then ventured outside with big bowls and sticks to collect things we needed to make our own wombat stew. We added things like mud, creepy crawlies (plastic ones of course), leaves, gumnuts and feathers. We mixed all of these ingredients all up and added water all while singing…
We had a lot of fun making the stew and then came back and wrote the recipe. We stuck down all of the ingredients into a big billycan template and wrote the method for making the stew to make posters to hang up in our classroom.
Feel free to make it at home using the recipe below, but please be aware that it’s not for humans to eat!!
We hope you enjoyed hearing about the fun we have been having in Prep B and reading some of our amazing writing!
