Grade 5/6 Melbourne Camp

Day 1

On the 11th of September, we had an early start to get on board the train to Melbourne. Our first destination was the Skydeck. It is approximately 90 stories high. Outside on the viewing platform, we got a funny photo re-enacting the Titanic scene. The Melbourne Aquarium, a massive building,  had lots of fish and sharks. There was also a baby penguin named Pesto. It was extremely fluffy. After a long day of walking 22, 000 steps, we finally arrived at Urban Camp and following dinner, Mr Reichman ran a Games Night. We split into four teams of five, with the colours red, blue, purple and pink in each team. During the most entertaining night of them all, we played multiple games like Keepy Uppy, Cup Ball and Quiz Questions.

Day 2

On Day 2 we went to the Queen Victoria Markets at 9 o’clock and split into three groups. We went our separate ways and spent an hour and a half shopping and looking around. The amount of money we were allowed to bring was $30, but a few of us saved some money so we could buy a treat for the train. When we got to the Library, there was a mini Lego version of it. We saw Ned Kelly’s armour, rifle and boots. The Dome was astonishing and intriguing, as it was all made by hand. At the Melbourne Museum, we split into three groups. We went to a variety of spots. There were dinosaurs, insects and a lot more.  After dinner, we went to theMelbourne Zoo for a night tour. We spotted dingoes, snakes, snow leopards, turtles and giraffes. Then we got badges and a photo with Annie, our tour guide. On Day 2 we walked 27, 000 steps around the city.

Day 3

On the third and final day, we went to Parliament House and went where the King cannot go, because a previous King had tried to arrest members of Parliament, so he got shot. The current King is not allowed to walk on the green House of Representatives carpet. We sat in The Chamber, in  famous representatives’ seats. Lastly, we went to the Fitzroy Gardens, where Captain Cook’s cottage is, and played gang up tiggy. Then we had a race to find the fastest runner in Grade ⅚. The placings were: Ayden, Elise, Izzy, Will, Leo and Levi. Then we left to go to Southern Cross station to get on the train to go home. Some of us bought treats for the train ride home. For the entire Camp, we walked approximately 45 kilometres. We enjoyed this Camp because it was a new experience for us.

GRADE 56 CAMP - MELBOURNE

I had the pleasure of escorting a great bunch of grade 56 students to Melbourne towards the end of term 3.

From a very early start to catch the train in Terang, to travelling on crowded trams, to eating donuts at the Queen Victoria Market, we had an amazing time.

We visited the Eureka Skydeck, the Melbourne Aquarium, The State Library, The Melbourne Museum, Parliament House (with a guided tour) and the Melbourne Zoo (with a special night visit).

Thankyou to Lachie Reichman, Nikki Robertson and Sally Partridge who helped make this a very special trip for our students.

And, a big shout out to the students themselves, who demonstrated all three of our school values while representing our school in Melbourne.
