PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Welcome to Term 4! I hope you all had a wonderful break. It is important to take some time out to recharge and slow down, I know our wonderful team here at the college are feeling recharged and energised for the term ahead.
As the school’s new Acting Principal, I would like to thank all students, staff and families for making me feel so warmly welcomed into our school community. I don’t know of any other job that allows me to interact with such an interesting and diverse range of people. I am extremely excited and honoured to work with everyone throughout this term, and it is a very busy and jammed packed term, so please make sure you check all relevant dates on the calendar.
I have been privileged to lead Nullawarre and District Primary as their principal for the past 10 years and am eager to share my knowledge and skills with the Mortlake College P-12 school community. I have met many students throughout my first week and am looking forward to meeting and getting to know all students and families throughout this term.
Last week there were VCE practice exams and some amazing achievements within both the Primary and Secondary Regional Athletics. Congratulations to all these students, with a special shout out to those who will be participating in the State Athletics and the upcoming VCE exams. On Sunday, 5 very brave Year 9 students joined their new friends from different schools within the state at the School for Student Leadership (Alpine School Campus), where they will continue their learning at this campus for the next 9 weeks. This week we have some very excited Year 3-4’s who are off to camp on Wednesday. We wish them all the best and can’t wait to hear all about their adventures when they return on Friday.
Our School Head Start Program will formally start on Monday November 5th. We will also be welcoming our new Prep students on Friday November 15th, where they will get their first experience of their 2025 class. It will be the first in a series of visits aimed at supporting learners to acquire understandings, tools and strategies that focus on building confidence, harnessing strengths, and gaining independence.
Our Year 12 students will complete formal classes on Tuesday 22nd October. All students and staff will attend participate in a special guard of honour Wednesday 23rd to say goodbye to the Year 12 class and to congratulate them on completing 13 years of school. The first VCE exam is English which will be held on Tuesday 29th October. Once the exams are completed, we will look forward to the graduation evening which will be held on Friday November 15th.
