On Wednesday, we celebrated Saint Michael and Saint John’s feast days. As a community, we prayed, gave thanks for their lives, and reflected on their qualities.
The actual feast day of Saint Michael, the archangel, is 29th September and the feast day of Saint John, the evangelist, is 27th December, so we celebrated these days today, while we are together at school.
All churches are dedicated to the worship of God and when people were first able to build churches, they were built on holy sites. If there was not a holy site nearby, a church was dedicated to the name of the person or event marked on the church calendar. Father John Doyle Sullivan was the first parish priest here in Horsham, and he named our parish after his original parish in Dublin, Ireland.
