English

Year 6

Our Year 6 students have been hard at work completing their final factual recount writing task, based on the novel Us Mob. They have now started their next writing piece, focusing on character analysis. This task allows students to explore the traits, motivations, and relationships of the characters they’ve encountered in the story. In addition, we have been sharpening their grammar skills, working on complex, compound, and simple sentences, and examining both independent and dependent clauses to enhance their writing capabilities.

Year 5

This term, our Year 5 literacy lessons are being integrated with a STEM-focused curriculum, with a particular emphasis on technology, coding, and programming. As students develop their reading and writing skills, they are also exploring how technology impacts our world. Through hands-on projects and discussions, they’re learning key concepts in coding and programming, all while honing their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities—preparing them for an increasingly digital future.

Maths

Year 6

In Mathematics, Year 6 students are focusing on area, perimeter, and volume. They are learning to calculate these measurements in practical ways, understanding how they apply to everyday scenarios such as designing spaces and determining how much material is needed to fill a shape.

Year 5

Our Year 5 students are working on data and statistics, with an emphasis on interpreting and analyzing large-scale data sets. They are learning how to read and create graphs and charts, helping them develop the skills needed to make sense of real-world data and trends.

Topic

Both Year 5 and Year 6 students have been deeply engaged in our ongoing coding and technology unit. We have explored the difference between plugged (using technology) and unplugged (without technology) coding. Recently, we discussed circuits and conductors, understanding how electricity flows and powers different devices.

Year 5 students completed a particularly exciting project: the Playdough Piano. Using foil and playdough, they constructed a working piano, learning about circuits and conductors in a hands-on, fun way.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Beachside Basketball

Our Grade 6 basketball team has achieved great success, winning their most recent round and progressing to the district level, which will take place next Thursday. Congratulations to all the players for their hard work and teamwork!

Cup Day Festivities

A huge congratulations to all the students who participated in our Cup Day festivities! It was wonderful to see the creativity and effort that went into designing and wearing fancy hats to celebrate the Melbourne Cup visiting our school. This was certainly a day to remember, and we’re sure the students had an unforgettable experience.

Memory Books

As part of their farewell to Primary School, the Year 6 students will be creating Memory Books. These scrapbooks will reflect on each year of their primary school journey, featuring written pieces (completed both in school and as part of homework) alongside any photos they wish to include.

We kindly ask parents to provide their child with a blank scrapbook (it doesn’t need to be anything fancy), as well as any materials they would like to use for decorating. Please also supply photos from your child’s primary school years—whether they are from school events or casual moments, all are welcome!
