Message from Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Principal

Welcome back to Term 4!

We hope everyone had an opportunity to enjoy a well-earned holiday after a busy Term 3 and we are all recharged ready for an action-packed Term 4.

Term 4 is always our busiest term with many school events occurring from the start of term right through to the end of term. Some events to keep an eye out for include:

  • Our 2025 Prep Transition program
  • School Fete
  • Year 3 Camp to Forest Edge
  • 2024 Swimming Program.

Further information about all our Term 4 events, including end of year events, will be shared via Compass and in upcoming newsletters.

2025 Enrolments

As we continue the planning process for the 2025 school year, we would greatly appreciate if families could notify the school if your child/ren will not be returning to NMPS in 2025 as soon as possible.

Any current families that are yet to enrol 2025 Prep students are asked to do so as a priority as our 2025 Prep Transition has already begun and we would like all new Prep families to be involved in this program.

2025 Grade Placements

NMPS is such a large school and as such we are not in a position to accommodate parent requests for grade placements, this includes requests for friendship groups and/or individual teachers.

Our 2025 classes will be randomly generated. Teaching teams, Specialist staff, ES staff and Leadership will review these classes considering the needs of all students from a social, academic, wellbeing and behavioural perspective.

A range of factors are considered based on some simple principles:

  • Classes need to have a gender balance
  • Classes need an academically and wellbeing compatible balance
  • Classes need a ‘social behaviour’ balance
  • Children need to be placed with familiar faces while at the same time acknowledging that some children work better with certain students than others irrespective of friendships.

Staff also look for compatible learning partners, considering current friendship groups, and encourage the development of new friendships.

Staffing Update

This term we welcome Paige Rynhart to the NMPS team. Paige will be working in our Errol Street Campus First Aid room on a Tuesday and Wednesday and assisting in classrooms across both campuses as an integration aide on Monday, Thursday and Friday.

Next Friday 25th October is World Teachers’ Day so put this date in your diaries and let’s celebrate our teachers at NMPS. We thank them for all the work they do to educate, inspire and empower our students every day.

Baby News

Baby Lola
Baby Lola

We would like to send our congratulations and warm wishes to Richard Smith and his partner as they welcomed baby Lola into the world on 06.10.2024. Rich is currently on leave while he enjoys this special time with his family.

Traffic Safety and Management

As communicated last week via Compass, it’s important that during our busy pick-up and drop-off times, we are mindful of the safety of everyone in our community. It is essential that passengers only enter or exit a car after it is parked in a parking space, or in our designated Kiss & Drop zones.

Also, pedestrians should walk when crossing roads and use the marked crossings where available. Finally, everyone in our community is entitled to be safe from intimidating or aggressive behaviour.

Such actions fall far short of our NMPS community standards. We encourage the community to act respectful towards each other and as you would like to be treated. As our students learn from the adults around them, we thank the great majority who are demonstrating safety, patience, and consideration for others during these busy times.

Expected Respectful Behaviour

While we are reminding our school community of respectful behaviour, we are disappointed to share with families that our new renovated toilets have been damaged by students.

We are seeking support from families to speak to their children about respectful behaviours towards not only each other but also towards school property. Bathrooms are there for everyone to use, and we need to treat these spaces as we would treat our own bathrooms at home.
