WHAM!

What's Happening At Milgate!

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People and we would like to pay our respects to the elders, both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

ART EXHIBITION

Our Art Exhibition was a vibrant celebration of creativity and community, where the hard work and dedication of our art teachers, Tamara Zebisch and Penny Camiot, truly shone. They guided students to produce original artworks inspired by a variety of artists, using diverse mediums that reflected each student’s unique identity. The glow-in-the-dark area was a sensory delight, while other pieces celebrated our school’s rich cultural diversity. Every hall, wall, and ceiling was brimming with colour and creativity, a testament to the unique voices of our school community. The show was deeply connected to our units of inquiry, with a special focus on sustainability and collaboration woven throughout. We were thrilled to have an amazing turnout of parents, who came to share in their children’s artistic achievements. A huge thank you to all of our teachers and the P&F for their fantastic cake stall and sausage sizzle, which added to the warmth and community spirit of the event. You made the event so much fun and we couldn’t have done it without you! The Art Exhibition was a true collaboration between the school and our parent community.

We couldn’t be prouder of our students and teachers!

YEAR 3 | NIEM INCURSION

Niem, a past parent and current scientist with the Australian Defence Force, visited the Year 3 students to enhance their understanding of our unit of inquiry, How the World Works. During the session, the students explored reversible reactions by adding and removing carbon dioxide, and observed how shaking chemicals and dye could change the colour of a solution. They also had the exciting opportunity to dress up like scientists and make detailed observations at each step of the experiments, deepening their hands-on learning experience. We are incredibly grateful to Niem and Vinuri for taking the time to visit and share their expertise with us!

TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY | PARENT & FRIENDS SPECIAL MORNING TEA

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful parent community for contributing to this year's special morning tea, hosted by our Parents & Friends Committee, in recognition of the hard work of our teachers and Education Support staff at Milgate Primary School. The staff were deeply touched by the generous gesture. Your continued support means so much to us – teaching your children remains a true pleasure and privilege. Thank you!

The staff at Milgate Primary School are truly one of a kind. Their dedication to the education of our students is inspiring and we want to acknowledge their work in making Milgate Primary School such a wonderful place.

LIBRARY UPDATE

Our school library is getting a fresh look with brand-new furniture! Librarian Stacey Harman has been hard at work putting everything together, and we’re excited to announce that the library will reopen next week. The purpose of the new furniture is to revitalise the space, providing students with more comfortable and welcoming areas to collaborate and immerse themselves in the rich collection of books available. We can't wait to see everyone enjoying the new and improved library!

SENSORY GARDEN WORKING BEE THIS SUNDAY 9AM

This Sunday we are holding a Working Bee to finish our Sensory Garden. We plan to add more soil to the gardens, toppings to the path, and pressure hose and paint timber in the space.

We need your help! The Garden Volunteers have been doing an amazing job, but we need more volunteers to help finish the space. If you are available to assist between 9am and 11am this Sunday, please email David Mander - david.mander@education.vic.gov.au

LAST DAY FOR PLACEMENT CONSIDERATIONS

The placement of students for the coming year is a complex process where teachers and leadership put great thought and sensitivity into the planning. When developing individual classes each year, teachers and leadership consider a number of factors including academic ability, social competencies, gender, students who do/do not work well together and friendship groupings important to the social and emotional development of the child. While the students are consulted about current friendships, it is only one of the criteria considered because building new relationships is also part of our education process and an essential skill for students to develop. We discuss, reflect and review our decisions thoughtfully over a significant period of time.

As part of this process, parents are invited to offer their insights. If students have any learning or social needs to be considered when placing them in classes for 2024, parents can email David Mander and request the online form to complete. Please email david.mander@education.vic.gov.au

Please note, that we do not retain previous years’ requests as students’ needs and friendships change from year to year. If the consideration from a previous year is still important, parents will still need to request the form from David.

Additionally, multiple student friend requests or requests that impact another student’s class placement cannot be considered in the process. Parents are also not able to request specific teachers. The closing date for these considerations is today.

Any requests received after this date are not able to be taken into account.
