Year 11 Psych & Biology

Creating Futures Together

The Year 11 Psychology and Biology students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the Melbourne Zoo recently!

The Psychology students were studying “Ethical Concepts and Key Science Skills” and participated in two tasks – one unpacking the key concepts through a case study of the helmeted honeyeater bird, and the other a research investigation task collecting qualitative and quantitative data on the Orangutans. This formed the basis of their Scientific Investigation Poster, and we were very fortunate as the zoo teacher was a very informative and engaging host.

The Biology students were studying “Adaptations and Bioethical Concepts” and participated in two tasks – one discussing the adaptations and bioethical issues of the Southern Corroboree Frog, and the other a quantitative data collection task on various species of Butterflies. This helped consolidate student learning of the different types of Adaptation, and once again, the zoo educator was a great presenter.

The students are to be congratulated on their exemplary behaviour on the day. We would also like to send a big thank you to Mr Lam, Mr Pousoulis and preservice teacher Adam Swadling for accompanying us on the day!
