Assistant Principal's Update

Laura Higgins

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve hit the halfway point of Term 3, and it’s all happening! This term, our focus is on self-discovery, progress review, and goal-setting. Across Years 10, 11, and 12, students have been engaging in both academic and supportive activities that are shaping their growth.

Year 10: Understanding Data and Setting Goals

In iCare, Year 10 students have been learning to read and understand their PAT Reading and Math Results, as well as their Semester Reports. They’ve reflected on this data and set meaningful semester goals, which they are now integrating into Individual Education Plans (IEPs).These IEPs will be pinned to Compass, and we encourage Year 10 teachers and students to review them to support students in achieving their goals. This work aligns seamlessly with our staff Year Level Team meetings, ensuring a comprehensive approach to student development.

Year 11 and 12: Preparing for Success

Our Year 11 and 12 students are preparing diligently for their upcoming exams. They recently attended an information night that covered essential topics like the VCAA exam process, exam formats, ATAR scoring, study techniques, and key dates. The PowerPoint from the night is available on Compass for your reference.

As we approach the final VCE exams, we are pleased to share the practice exam schedule designed to help our Year 12 students prepare effectively. These practice exams will mirror the conditions and format of the November exams, providing valuable opportunities for students to get familiar with the exam environment and refine their strategies.

Exams are critical in assessing our students' knowledge and skills, such as time management and critical thinking. Successfully navigating these exams can open doors to further education and career opportunities, making them a pivotal milestone in our students' academic journeys.

We encourage all students to review the schedule, attend each practice exam, and use the feedback to guide their final preparations. Your support during this crucial time is greatly appreciated.

What supports are available if my student needs a little extra stretch in their studies?

If your student needs a little extra stretch in their studies, we have several supports available:

  • Free Tutoring: Available on Monday and Thursday after school.
  • MYLNS Program: Targeted support for literacy and numeracy needs.
  • Redemption Sessions: For catching up on work.
  • Quiet Study Space: For focused individual work.
  • Study Booths: Ideal for group study sessions.

Beyond the Classroom!

It’s not all academic! Term 3 has been filled with fun, from Christmas in July to the Year 11 Formal. Up next, we have the Year 10 Formal and Book Week, where we look forward to seeing some very silly costumes! As we move into the second half of the term, students must stay focused on their goals while also enjoying the social and creative aspects of school life. We’re proud of their hard work and dedication and look forward to seeing them continue to grow.

Best Regards,

Laura Higgins
