WPSC Wellbeing Team
This term the wellbeing team have been busy with school wide support and interactions with students. In addition to the social and emotional counselling support we offer our students, we aim to identify more complex concerns and intervene early. We support students and their families to access help and appropriate clinical supports in the community.
We are currently planning for our R U OK Day which will be held this year on Thursday 12th September.
Thursday 12-September
R U OK Day - Thursday September 12th 2024.
We can all make a difference to others by simply taking the time to ask, “Are you OK?” By acting as ‘eyes and ears’ and reaching out, we can show others that they are supported and encourage them to access help.
EMPOWERING PEOPLE TO MEANINGFULLY CONNECT AND LEND SUPPORT
The celebration of R U OK Day is a proactive health promotion activity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives.
The celebration will focus on building motivation, confidence and skills of the help giver – the person who can have meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling. The messages around asking R U OK encourages our young people to invest more time in their personal relationships and building the capacity of informal support networks – friends, family and colleagues to be alert to those around them, have a conversation if they identify signs of distress or difficulty and connect someone to appropriate support, long before they are in crisis. |

Also, back by popular demand! Our Quiet lunchtime space. This year we have back a dedicated quiet space which is in the library space. This is held in the library at lunchtime. It is for students who like to read, or do a quiet activity and it is supervised by staff each day. |
Another lunchtime activity is the Craft Club each Wednesday in Room 13. This is facilitated by Maree Strong who is a lady from the Hastings community who is passionate about supporting young people in the area. Maree has been coming to the school each week all throughout the year and has developed a great Craft Club vibe in our school. This is also supported by the wellbeing team. Some of the activities have been cushion making, place mats, candle holders, decorative tiles, pom poms, board games, rock pets, deco frames, tea light holders, and much more. Maree manages to come up with something new and creative each week.
Other activities - We have a magnificent Breakfast Club each Thursday. This is run by our church community volunteers who provide a delicious breakfast for our students each week.
Our DSM Defence School Mentor also offers extra wellbeing support for students of our ADF families who attend the school. This Semester there has been special hot chip and pizza slice lunches for ADF students.
Wellbeing Team consists of: Wellbeing Coordinator, Mental Health Counsellor, School Nurse (2 days focused on Health promotion and sexual health) Defence School Mentor/Chaplain, and our three Youth Workers who specialise in behaviour and wellbeing support.
This year as a school we continue our focus on BASE, an acronym to help students consider their own self-care and how making simple adjustments to their routine can improve their mental health.
BREAKFAST CLUB
Finally, we have our Breakfast Club each Thursday morning – run in collaboration with our local church volunteers and wellbeing staff. Breakfast is available from K2 from 8:15am onwards. All students are welcome to come and enjoy some yummy hot food! Egg and bacon muffins, toasties, pancakes and milo. Other programs available outside of school
