Dear Western Port Secondary College Community,
Womin Djeka and welcome to another edition of the Western Port Word, filled with messages of pride, progress and the achievements we've made as a college this term.
As we reach the midway point of Term 3, I am delighted to acknowledge the outstanding start our students have made. Their consistent attendance and active engagement in learning have set a strong tone for the term. It is particularly encouraging to note that our school boasts some of the most positive attendance data among similar schools across the state. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our teachers and education support staff, who continually strive to foster an environment where students feel motivated and supported.
The direct impact of this commitment is evident in the impressive improvements in the percentages of students achieving strong and exceeding proficiencies in both Year 7 and Year 9 Reading and Numeracy NAPLAN results in 2024. These achievements are a reflection of the focused efforts of both students and staff maintaining high expectations and engagement across the school.
All families would have received communication from year level teams regarding the Parent/Carer survey for term 3. We have been capturing parent opinions of our school to help review and refine our work and your feedback is important to us. We would really like to collect survey responses from as many families as possible so please look out for the compass notification in your emails or use the following link and generic school code: 868633
We were thrilled to see such a strong turnout at our recent senior school parent partnerships and information night for the upcoming VCAA exams. The presence of so many parents/carers reinforces the support that is so vital for our senior students as they prepare for upcoming external assessments. We deeply value these partnerships, recognising that collaboration with parents/carers is key to enhancing student outcomes as students work towards completing their senior certificates.
I would like to use this platform to recognise one of our amazing long-standing staff members, Vicki Tsarouhas. Vicki was recently honoured with a 35-year recognition of service from the Department of Education. Her dedication to education and her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of her students have been truly inspirational. Congratulations, Vicki, on this well-deserved recognition.
As we head into the second half of Term 3, I look forward to sharing and update as we continue to build on our momentum as a school community over the coming weeks.
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to our school.
Kind Regards,
Chris Quinn
